Over the last 40 years, anime has become an international phenomenon attracting many watchers and fans around the globe. The reason behind this is due to the wide varieties of genres anime have given: comedy, drama, action, romance, etc., to name a few. However, the top five most popular genres that stood out according to research are:

- 3. Dark fantasy
- 4. Thriller
- 5. Horror
- There are two major forms of anime. One of which is anime itself with present technology that helps feature high definition videos. The other is manga adaptation, which is famous for having more specific plot content for fans that are more passionate. Although both have their pros and cons, most fans preferred anime over manga.
The top three anime that have the most viewers are listed as such:
