Last September, Marvel released a new movie that has gained internet sensation. With actors Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Tony Leung and Meng’er Zhang, they created the movie: Shang Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings. This marvel movie is more about martial arts and asian culture, which is a bit different from the traditional marvel series that star western culture and guns. There would be important moments of the movie, statistics of the movie, and differences between comics and the movie included in this article.
The story starts by setting scenes thousands of years ago, where it shows Wenwu and Li falling in love. Then, it cuts to the present day with Shaun, which is the main character and Katy, Shaun’s best friend. Shaun has to cope with his past and face his fearsome father, who is having hearing problems, to try and save the outside world from demons. Eventually, Shang-Chi managed to battle his father, and managed to partially win in the second round. There are some heartbreaking deaths and flashbacks, but this article’s not going to spoil anything. This movie involves a completely different style of art and fighting than other Marvel movies.
Shang-Chi is now ranked as the highest-money making in North America since Covid has started. The movie earned $196.7 million dollars, breaking the record of the movie, Black Widow, which earned $183.4 million. In the first four days of its debut, it earned 94 million USD. After its first week, it only dropped 58%, while other major movies like Black Widow, dropped 68%. The movie Shang Chi received a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 98% audience score. It even received an A grade from CinemaScore. Even though some movies’ engagement were more than Shang Chi, they quickly declined out of popularity, unlike Shang Chi, which maintained a high level of engagement for a long time. Therefore, Shang Chi has very impressive statistics compared to normal movies.
Shang Chi is very different from normal MCU movies because of the diversity of race in the cast. Most of the cast of Shang Chi are Chinese descendants or Asian, in general. The movie centers around martial arts and bare-handed fighting, where normal MCU movies revolve around technologies. In the comics, even though Shang Chi doesn’t have super powers, he can still beat Ares, God of War, with kung-fu. Shang Chi’s backstory and abilities are also different. Marvel changed his powers from only kung fu master to having also the ten rings. Between the comics version and the MCU version, there are a lot of differences. Even though there are major differences between the comics and the movie, Shang Chi is still excellent in the area of martial arts.
Shang Chi’s story line, improvements and rankings are what made the story interesting. Actors Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Tony Leung and Meng’er Zhang really showcased their acting skills and made this an enjoyable movie. Finally, there is one question for you. What do you think of the movie Shang Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings?
