The annual book fair at our school has become inseparable from our school life. It has been held in our school for so long that it has become an annual tradition. This year, the Sanmin and Eslite bookstores held the biggest DIS’s Book Fair ever on October 28th and 29th, 2020.
Unlike book fairs in the past, the school administration moved the bookshelves and the tables on the third floor library to create more space. This was done in order to offer students a variety of books, board games, stationery, and educational materials. The head of the Eslite bookstore at Miramar even visited our school herself! According to her, the two bookstores tried to bring books for all-age students and teachers at our school. They brought books from high-level tech fiction to easier picture books for Lower School students. This year, however, parents are not allowed to directly join the Book Fair because of COVID-19. Only parents who have scheduled a time beforehand are welcomed to the event.
This book fair successfully provided the chance for students to buy books at a cheaper price and also encouraged them to maintain a good reading habit. Most students and teachers had positive comments and feedback on this event.
Ms. Robeth, the teacher for High School E.A.P. and Senior Project for example, said the event was a, “great avenue for students and teachers to explore different reading materials to improve our knowledge.”
Whereas, Liam, a student from Grade 10, said the event was interesting because it was full of books. He also said he liked the arrangement and decorations of the venue this year. Liam’s favorite book is My Disney Princess, whereas, other students like Sean, bought books about unicorns.
In the future, the two book stores will continue to hold the event to provide DIS students and teachers with better books.
