Every one of us has goals we want to accomplish in our lives. Though, we all share the same ultimate goal—happiness, but what exactly is happiness?
Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon. The LORD will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring.” (Isaiah 58:10-11)
The Bible teaches us that we are blessed not just so that we can feel good, not just so that we can be happy and comfortable, but so that we will bless others. Becoming a blessing for others and helping others is what makes us truly happy. Ultimately, it is also how we discover who we really are—our true identity.
On the 19th of January, all the student leaders of DIS had the pleasure to encounter with 11 dynamic DOMNET leaders from the Philippines, who had travelled to Taiwan to enrich our minds with the qualities of a leader through the leadership workshop. They showed us what it is to be a blessing for others not only through words, but also through their warm and caring actions. They all deserve a big, big thank you for teaching us unforgettable life lessons through a fun and extraordinary approach. They taught us to reach out of our comfort zones, to help others, and to trust our peers. They reminded us that each and every one of us was created in the image and likeness of God, and so, we’re all morally good and doing good deeds is our primary reaction when people ask for our help. I have never experienced anything similar to the leadership workshop DOMNET prepared for us. It was so amazingly unique because it was so simple, yet the lessons we learnt were so deep.
After the leadership workshop, it was very hard for me to tell the others what it was like because it was such an amazing experience that I didn’t know how I should start talking about it. Along with the friendly and high-spirited dynamic DOMNET leaders were two engaging and enthusiastic priests—Fr. Jeff Aytona and Fr. Julius Factora, who taught us great lessons of life through fun activities and games. They have all created a lasting impression in our hearts.
Life is now. Don’t wait anymore. Laudare. Praise God for his omnipotence and the people around you for their goodness. Benedicere. God is blessing us every day, and now is our turn to bless others. Praedicare. Preach the Word as Dominicans through not only words but also actions. Be a blessing to others. Dominicans, are you ready? Let’s go extend a helping hand to the people around us!
