Campus Radio students took a tour in Radio Taiwan International (RTI), one of the oldest, and most famous radio stations in Taiwan this Friday December 4, 2020. The educational tour started out as an escape from school for most of the students, hanging out with Campus Radio teammates, a chance to relax – and of course – to learn new things about radio at the same time that they may apply someday if they decide to pursue this type of career.

The students started their tour from the main entrance of RTI on the first floor, followed by a tour of the recording studios for both video and audio programs produced by RTI. Once we entered the recording set of Taiwan Insider and saw the green screen as well, all of us gasped! “So this what a studio set looks like!” Youtubers don’t just film directly from their rooms after all! Once we looked around the other recording studios for the audio programs, it was really fascinating because it’s new to all of us. The guide, Mr. Leslie Liao, is a very friendly person that explained all of the equipments and various floors and offices of the radio station very thoroughly. He told us that RTI is broadcasted in 13 different languages, including English, Chinese, French, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Russian and many more. It was a great experience because Mr. Leslie gave the students an idea of how RTI produces good quality radio from specialized rooms to the admin and public relation offices, and the master control room of the broadcasts to ensure the broadcast quality to different countries. All of which members of Campus Radio will apply what they’ve learned in their own radio at school in the near future.

After some fun yelling in a single recording room, and writing their names on the RTI walls, it was time to relax! After the full tour, the students went straight to the lobby to take some group pictures. Most of the students were excited and others not so much, because they had started to get tired (we climbed a lot of stairs!). It’s the time to bond with classmates, have a chance to unwind and forget our problems for a while. The tour was a success, short yet meaningful. All of us had fun and learned something new about radio that they didn’t know before. It was a great experience!
