On December 21st, 2020, the Dominican International School celebrated its annual Foundation Day at 63. A day recognizing and commemorating the origins of our school, whilst reminding ourselves of one of the many values our school cherishes: togetherness.
The day started off with a most gracious prayer led by our principal, Sr. Zenaida. She lightened our hearts and balanced our minds as we head on to a day full of a number of fun and exciting activities that spark healthy competition but doesn’t fail to remind us the intimacy of community.
The activities of the day were separated between the lower, middle, and high school sections to ensure an organized experience within the bounds of the respected age group. The students were also divided into our colored houses, stimulating our competitive nature, but accentuating togetherness and community when students are earning points for their respected houses. The activities challenged various skills and abilities of students, but overall, was a fun experience for everyone.
The most notable event for me was the four-way tug of war between the middle school, high school, and even the teachers! The room was divided into five sections, each representing the five colored houses. It is definitely an exciting experience tugging with your fellow housemates for your house’s glory. Those not participating cheered and encouraged their housemates. Hearing the roar of the crowd, you can really feel the sense of fellowship and overall sense of community in the atmosphere!
The day concluded with a second livestream recapping the events that had occurred, presenting pictures that were taken during the activities, while thanking the students, teachers, and faculty for their cooperation for successfully commemorating such an important day celebrating our school’s foundation.
