Moving up to Grade 6

There are some big differences between Middle School and Lower School, right? It feels like a year has passed, but you have already graduated Grade 5. In this article I will be talking about the Grade 6 students this year about their thoughts and feelings on moving up to middle school and finishing their first year as Middle Schoolers!

I collected some answers from G6 students this year about their perspectives on moving up to Middle School and what the biggest difference between middle school and lower school is. According to them, the biggest difference is that students in Middle School eat lunch at different times. In Lower School, students eat lunch during the fifth period, which is between 11:35-12:20. However, when students move up to Middle School, they eat in the cafeteria during the sixth period from 12:20-1:05. In Middle School, students go to different exam rooms, but in Lower School students just take the exams in their Homerooms. Another G6 student answered that Lower Schools have more interesting activities than Middle School.

I also asked them about what they like the most in Middle School so far, and which do they prefer more: Middle School or Lower School. The Grade Sixes responded that they like it when they can meet new teachers and not just see the same one for every subject. Some also answered they can sell their own products during Masquerade Night and Spring Fair, unlike in Lower School where students aren’t allowed to sell things. However, most of them replied that they prefer Lower School better because there are more breaks, like “Golden Time”, and in Lower School students don’t have to carry their bags to every class. But there are still a few who prefer Middle School better than Lower School. They think in Middle School they can learn more in detail about each subject than in Lower School.

(For those who don’t know, the Golden time mentioned above is a period of class that occurs once a week. Students are free to do what they want.)

After finishing the first year of Middle School some students feel that they will be more used to the differences in Middle School so that they can do better in all the classes. Some miss Lower School and others feel delighted about finishing their first year.

In conclusion, even though Middle school is a bit harder than Lower School for the Grade 6s right now, others find it great to keep progressing with their learning. As a fellow student who has finished that first year of Middle School, I can only give you guys one advice, and that is ENJOY THE MOMENT!!!
