As the first month of 2021 is coming to an end, let’s go back in time to 2020 and see the top 7 amazing video games of the year. Since Covid-19 started to worsen in 2020, many people lost their lives. However, video games still stay the same, evolving and becoming better. Many people would say that 2020 was the best year for video games, as many of us, gamers, played for countless hours in different games, ranking them in our subconscious.

7.  Final Fantasy VII Remake

While the 1993 Final Fantasy VII remake was already one of the best classic RPG games, there is in the genera, having a remake with a touch of modernized styles such as the new animation and its new battle system, which made it better. While it’s true there are some cons to the new remake, the game’s overall liking shows that many still love the remake and can’t wait to see what happens in the next sequel since the game was left on a cliffhanger.

6.Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout

People say the “simpler the better”. Well, this is the game that proves that statement. Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout was what we needed in 2020 since none of us could go outside and play with our friends. Fall Guys implement our favorite TV shows such as American Ninja or Wipeout and turned them into a game. You and your friends are little wacky mutated jellybeans that join random racing competitions that have obstacles you have to dodge or to go through. Since this game is so simple and has a lot of different maps, you can play once in a while and never get bored of it.

5. Ghost of Tsushima

Ghost of Tsushima is basically the standard fantasy samurai game, but better. Even though it lacks originality, this game makes it out by having amazing fighting gameplay as you try to defend the Mongols’ attacks and bandits. If you enjoy Japan and its view, then this game is also for you. Imagine you being in the countryside of Japan, riding a house finding bad guys to battle. The game is a limitless map, so you can always go back to the game after finishing the story mode and ride your horse, calming your souls.

4. Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Spider-man was one of the most popular characters in the MC universe, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that his successor, Miles Morales, wouldn’t be an immediate hit. In Spider-Man: Miles Morales, we explore the city of Harlem from the perceptive of a web-shooter. The game is just like GTA, but this time you are on the good side of the city. You, as the character, can either go goofing around the city or defeating the evil villains that are threatening your city. Even better, because the PS5 came just in time for the game to be released, the graphic boost PS5 gives out players a chance to feel like you yourself are shooting spider webs on bad guys.

3. The Last of Us Part II

“An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind” – this is the moral of The Last of US. The game protracts what happens if we continue this endless cycle of violence that has been happening in the real world for countless years. In the game, we follow 2 female characters driven by hatred and revenge in a post-apocalyptic world. This is a story game with many brutal, bloody scenes of what humans can do to each other. The game is loved by many for its very realistic plot and character motives that sometimes make us mad at the game for making the decisions.

2. Among Us

If you love getting your friends mad meanwhile also improving your skills in deception, then Among Us is your game! Among Us came out in 2018, but it didn’t get popular only after covid started since many of us missed the bantering with our friends and making jokes with them. Among Us is basically an online werewolf game where you start at a limited small map with 10 other crewmates, and one or two of them are the killers. To survive the game as a normal crewmate, you have to complete repairment tasks and persuade the other players that you are the killer. If you are the killer in the game, you have to secretly kill off all the crewmates while also persuading the others that you are not to blame for the bodies.

1. Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Just as the nightmares of the 2020 Covid-19 started, Animal Crossing: New Horizons gave the “quarantines” a calming antidote to smooth people’s daily life. The game is a nice refresher to the other games in the past. New Horizons isn’t a binging game like the other more intense games we are used to. Not only is the game straightforward, but your character is spawned on an island and has to fish and talk to neighbors. You also need to complete various other tasks the game gives you. If you are currently bored in life and want something to do, you can always ask your switch friends to join you and relax.
