Have you ever wondered what the school lives of your friends were like before? In this article we will be learning more about the new students’ lives before DIS. How did their schools look like? Did they enjoy their school? Read more to uncover the pasts of your classmates!

As I did the interview, I asked a small number of new students a couple questions about the differences between DIS and their old schools. After the interviews, I came up with interesting results. Due to the students’ different nationalities, we were able to find more about how the schools in different parts of the world vary from one another. In one of the interviews a student mentioned that one period was only 45 minutes, whereas another said that a period was an hour. This shows us the difference between our time tables.

As an international school, our student population is composed of a variety of students from multiple nationalities. Students interviewed said that their past schools mostly consisted of students from their own country. Another difference was the size of the campus. Most students that were interviewed mentioned that the previous schools they attended were much smaller than DIS. One had said, “the classrooms here are much larger”, whilst another said “our school didn’t even have a field!” Their comments from the interviews show that most students came from noticeably smaller schools.

While school size is one thing, education is another. Although different schools have different methods of teaching, all share a common goal; to help students obtain more knowledge. One student said, “both [my old school and DIS] have a higher [standard of] education.” As I delved deeper into this topic, it was prominent that many answers varied. It was shown that although most schools were proven to be effectively teaching students, there were some exceptions. One student said, “the teachers here are more professional, and teach in a more efficient and faster pace [than] those of my old school.” Although there are many flaws as well. As you might know, bullying is one of the major issues in school communities worldwide. While each school deals with this issue, we all have different techniques in handling it. One student addressed this issue, “the students here are nicer and a lot more welcoming than the students in my old school, and the bullying problems here are more under control“. As this may be a controversial topic, let’s save this for another article! This article has allowed us to acquire more about the different school environments your friends came from. No matter what region or country, let’s make sure to welcome them with open arms! That’s all for the new student Q&A! Make sure to keep up to date on the D’TORCH Newsletter!
